Instagram is one of the most popular social media sites. People of all ages use the platform, but it's especially popular among the younger generations. Instagram is all about visual content, so photos, videos, and other images. This follows the social media trend of less words and more visual content, so Instagram is arguably well set up for the future. Facebook was wise to purchase the platform in 2012; Instagram was becoming a competition, and they were able to acquire the company before things got too far.

Instagram is a lot of fun for individuals, and a great way to share photos and keep up with what your friends are up to. It's also very useful for your business as a marketing tool. In either case, having a strong grasp of how to use the platform will really enhance your experience. Today we're going to talk about uploading content using your Mac or PC. We'll cover both individually, since the process differs. First though, let's talk about why you might want to upload photos or videos on your computer instead of your phone in some cases.

Why upload Instagram content on a computer instead of my phone?

You may upload photos and videos to Instagram from your computer simply because that's where the content is stored. Some people don't keep a lot of pictures and videos on their phone. Once they have a certain amount up there, they just transfer it all to their computer and organize it there.

Another reason is it's difficult to do quality editing of your photos on a phone, plus the editing tools you can have there are limited. Instagram is all about the visual, so you want your content to look amazing. Editing the photos on your computer first is a good way to achieve this.

It's important to note that you can't upload to Instagram directly from your PC by default. However, it's possible with a few extra steps and this is helpful to know, especially if you're wanting to upload a large number of photos, or older photos that aren't on your smart phone.
